Is there only one type of Cochlear Implant?

No, there are many different types and more are being developed all the time. However, they all have the same common features:

• a microphone that picks up the sound;
• a signal processor that converts the sound into electrical signals;
• a transmission system that transmits the electrical signals to the implanted electrodes;
• and an electrode or an electrode array.
